Pallet of Soft Drink Cans: How Many Cans, How Much It Weighs and How It Ships

1. How many cans are on a pallet of soft drinks, and what does it weigh

A full Euro pallet of soft drinks in 330 ml cans holds up to 2,160 cans: 90 trays of 24 cans, stacked in up to 9 layers. Its gross weight is about 780 to 820 kg. These are the reference figures we work with at ORBIS for the 330 ml can; the exact quantity and weight depend on the reference and the packaging, and are confirmed in every quotation.

• Tray: 24 × 330 ml cans, shrink-wrapped.
• Trays per pallet: 90, in up to 9 layers.
• Cans per pallet: up to 2,160.
• Approximate gross weight: 780–820 kg.
• Base: Euro pallet, 1200 × 800 mm.

2. Where that weight comes from

A filled 330 ml can weighs about 0.35 kg, so 2,160 cans come to roughly 750 kg of product. On top of that come the wooden pallet and the packaging (trays and film), about another 30 kg. Most of that tare is the pallet itself: according to the official EPAL specification, an empty EPAL 1 Euro pallet weighs approximately 25 kg.

3. Euro pallet (EPAL 1) dimensions and load

The 800 × 1,200 mm Euro pallet is the usual base for beverage distribution in Europe. These are the figures published by the European Pallet Association (EPAL) for its EPAL 1 pallet:

• Dimensions: 800 × 1,200 × 144 mm (width × length × height).
• Empty weight: approximately 25 kg.
• Safe working load: 1,500 kg.

At 780–820 kg, a pallet of 330 ml cans therefore sits well within the Euro pallet's safe working load.

4. What to confirm before you order a pallet

• Reference and quantity: at ORBIS the minimum order is 1 full pallet per reference; no full container is required.
• Best-before date: we work with 9 to 18 months of remaining shelf life; ask for the batch date before you confirm the order.
• Incoterm: EXW, FOB, CIF or DDP. It decides who arranges and pays for transport; see our Incoterms guide for beverage buyers.
• Unloading at destination: a pallet of around 800 kg cannot be unloaded by hand. Tell us in your quote request whether you have a loading dock, a forklift or a pallet truck.
• Documents: EUR.1, T1 and a phytosanitary certificate when the destination requires it.

5. Protecting the load

For long journeys or hot destinations, agree in the quotation how the goods will travel:

• Stretch wrap and corner boards on the pallet edges, so it does not deform in transit.
• The container or truck conditions (for example, exposure to heat), confirmed in the quotation for the route.
• On delivery, check the pallet and the wrap before signing the delivery note, and record any damage.

6. Sea, road or rail transport

Pallets are consolidated and prepared at our Barcelona warehouse, then shipped by sea, road or rail depending on the destination and the agreed Incoterm.
